World Touring Car Championship

Munich, 13th May 2008. This weekend the FIA World Touring Car
Championship is going to make its first stop on European soil in the
2008 season. The “Circuit de la Comunitat” in Valencia (ES) will be the
venue for the fifth and sixth rounds of the season. Following the
disappointing races in Mexico about a month ago, the BMW national teams
are keen to rejoin the battle for top positions in the two 50-kilometre
sprint races.

made history in Monaco at the weekend, 10th/11th May, after competing in the
prestigious Grand Prix Historique – the sixth running of the event which first
took place in 1997.

Strakka Racing made a very
creditable debut in the highly competitive Le Mans Series at Spa-Francorchamps
in Belgium yesterday. The team’s driver pairing of Peter Hardman and Nick
Leventis steered their Aston Martin DBR9 to a high of second in class before
finally crossing the line to take fourth place in GT1.

The 2007 VXR Racing Driver of the Year winner,
John Allison, secured a podium finish in his second-only race meeting since
winning a competition to become a professional racing driver.
The 34-year-old mortgage consultant finished
third in race two at the Welsh circuit of Pembrey yesterday (Sunday 11 May),
having only ever raced two weeks ago for the first time in race conditions at
the season opener at Snetterton.

single-seater racer Adrian Quaife-Hobbs added to his recent tally of points with
a superb fourth and fifth place in the Formula Renault 2.0 Italia Cup. The 17
year-old from Tonbridge competed in the third and fourth rounds of the series at
Hungaroring and now lies in fifth place in the series.

Oulton Park circuit will host the second Renault
Sport UK charity duathlon during the British Touring Car Championship meeting in
July, The event, consisting of two laps of cycling split by one lap of running,
is scheduled to take place on Friday, 25th July following the day of
free practise for support races. The North West Air Ambulance is the charity
nominated to receive all funds raised through a £15 per person entry fee

Formula Renault UK with Michelin Championship drivers
are set to break through the 120mph barrier at Thruxton this weekend, with this
season’s new bodywork helping to break the lap record at every 2008 event so
far. Pre-event testing saw CR Scuderia Formula Renault’s Adam Christodoulou
(Lichfield) set the fastest time of 1min 10.216s (120.79mph), which would
establish a new lap record if repeated during a Championship
race.

Junior Rallying’s Tom Clark finished an excellent 36th overall and 10th in the two wheel-drive category of this weekend’s Kalnanuiza Rally, only his second event in Latvia driving to his own pace notes. The rally was won outright by 17 year-old local Janis Karlins, who has progressed through the same route as British Junior Rallying drivers competing in Latvia, demonstrating the importance of the scheme.
