HOGAN DOMINATES OFFICIAL TESTING AT OULTON PARK
Patrick Hogan (Killiney, Co Dublin) set the fastest time in both sessions of the official Formula Renault UK with Michelin Championship test day at Oulton Park Island on Wednesday, 26th April. The winner of round two at Brands Hatch Indy set a mark of 1min 19.507s (100.79mph) in the morning and then surpassed that comfortably in the afternoon with a best of 1min 18.616s (101.93mph) around the 2.23-mile Cheshire circuit.
His AKA Lemac team-mate Jeremy Metcalfe (Fleet, Hants) was second on combined times, just 0.282s behind after shaving more than a second off his morning’s best time. Fortec Motorsport’s Sam Bird (Claygate, Surrey) was third with a time of 1min 18.965s in the more favourable afternoon conditions.
Fabio Onidi (Northampton) led the six B4 Group Graduate Cup contenders in 15th place with a time of 1min 19.929s despite being the only driver to go slower in the afternoon session. Position 1 Racing’s Armaan Ebrahim (Woking) was just one-tenth of a second behind, heading a trio of Graduate Cup drivers including Dean Smith (Wolverhampton) and Daniel Roos (Bishop’s Stortford).
Scorpio Motorsport’s Will Bratt (Oxford) continued his great progress this season with a stunning fourth place. Joining him at Scorpio for the test, David Epton, who raced in Formula Renault UK with the team in 2003, finished a creditable 12th in his first official test of the season as he works towards joining the fastest series in the British Touring Car Championship package. Championship leader James Sutton (New Barnet, Herts) finished ninth.
Hogan will now be considered among the favourites for rounds three and four of the Championship, which take place at Oulton Park on 13th/14th May. The Irishman said:
