CRICK AND HACKETT SHARE BATHURST GLORY IN GT THRILLER
Greg Crick has won the second round of the 2006 Speed Energy Drink Australian GT Championship after fans witnessed a thrilling battle between Porsche, Ferrari and Lamborghini at Mount Panorama, Bathurst, today.
Crick and returning Lamborghini driver Peter Hackett split the wins at the inaugural WPS Bathurst International motor festival, Crick sealing overall honors thanks to a race one victory and a second place in the final event.
Race one saw Crick hunt down Sonic Motor Racing driver Reynolds after the Porsche lead a majority of the opening laps.
After waiting patiently for his Tyres to reach optimum temperature, Crick passed Reynolds just half a lap from the checkered flag following a safety car period - caused by a crash involving Peter Lucas’ Lotus Elise after it contacted the wall entering the Brock Skyline.
Lucas was unhurt, the resulting safety car period allowing a three car battle to the flag with Crick taking the win ahead of Reynolds and defending series champion Bryce Washington’s similar Porsche.
The second race featured a thrilling three car battle and saw Lamborghini driver Peter Hackett charge from fourth to first in the 12-lap event.
