Revenge in Superbike & 600cc classes
At 1:30pm on 8th April, the Superbike and 600cc classes race of the Pan Delta Super Racing Festival was held at ZIC. After the warm up lap, the 4 front row starters immediately took up the 4 leading places. No.2 Cheung Hau-Chung, who started from fourth place emerged in the lead.
On lap 3, defending champion Huang Shi-Zhao took the lead, but the fight for the first 3 places was still very fierce. In second place was no. 10 Cheung Sai-On. All the riders were riding on the absolute limit and almost leaning on the floor in the corners. On lap 7, no. 10 Cheung Wai-On was getting closer and closer to leader Huang Shi-Zhao. The difference between the two riders was down to 0.3 seconds only. By lap 8, this distance was further reduced to just one bike length. The top 3 remain unchanged and the leaders were beginning to lap the backmarkers.
During the last 2 laps, the whole circuit’s focus was on Cheung Wai-On and Huang Shi-Zhao. They came up against some backmarkers and both were delayed. On lap 9, they have overtaken the slower cars and the gap between them was just a mere 0.1 second. Cheung Wai-On began his attack and the two riders swapped places at least 3 times on the same lap. At the last corner, Cheung Wai-On passed Huang Shi-Zhao who had led for 9 and a half laps and became the winner of the first ZIC Superbike race.
A total of 25 riders took part in this 10 lap race which ran smoothly. Huang Shi-Zhao set the fastest race lap, the time is 1:39.242.
