“It would have been nice to have qualified on the front row but fourth
on the grid is good and I am looking forward to the race”, said the
Apotex Pharmaceuticals-backed star after the second 20-minute session.
“To be honest though, raceday will be tough. We did have some
understeer and oversteer issues in qualifying and having missed the
first session we obviously have a very big battle on our hands in the
first race tomorrow, starting from the back.
“We should be able to challenge for a good points finish in the final
round but I think it will be hard to keep some of the other fast
drivers behind us. If we can get the car working well in the first race
though, I’m fairly happy we’ll be able to end the season on a high in
round 20.”
At his ‘home’ circuit for the championship finale, Adderbury-based Will
is hoping for a grandstand finish to his season and heading into
tomorrow’s 19th and 20th rounds he is eighth overall in the driver
standings with the opportunity to conclude his second year in the
formula in the top seven.
Having missed the first of the day’s two qualifying sessions though, to
determine the grid for Sunday morning’s round 19, Will is to line-up at
the tail of the field in 31st position and will have worked wonders if
he manages to climb into a points-paying position in the top 20 by the
time the chequered flag falls.
Round 19 will begin the day’s action at Silverstone at 09.00 with the
20th and final round of the season expected to get underway at 14.15.
With fog having delayed today’s track activity by one and a half hours
though, similar conditions tomorrow morning could result in an amended
timetable.
Motors TV, channel 413 of the Sky Digital platform and NTL channel 545,
will broadcast round 19 live tomorrow morning. Round 20 coverage will
be shown in full, although delayed, due to the station’s commitment to
live coverage of the DTM touring car series.
