Ireland voted Best Presented Team in A1 Grand Prix

2nd April 2006, Shanghai: Ireland's entry in the inaugural A1 Grand Prix series, The World Cup of Motorsport, has won the award for the Best Presented Team of the 2005/2006 season. A1 Team Ireland won the accolade after scoring the highest number of votes between the other team owners and was presented with its award at the A1 Grand Prix Awards Ceremony in the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Shanghai, China, on Sunday evening following the final round of the series.

The award was presented to Team Principal Mark Gallagher by Yu Chen, Director General of Shanghai Sports Bureau, in the presence of 500 guests including the teams and A1 Grand prix management headed by HRH Sheikh Hasher Maktoum al Maktoum.

"I'm delighted that A1 Team Ireland has won this award, it is thoroughly deserved," said Sheikh Maktoum. "Their presentation was always professional, both from the way their garage looked to the way they dealt with technical issues. They have been tenacious competitors for points, the future is bright and I wish them the best of luck for next season."

Receiving the award on behalf of the team Mark Gallagher said: "I'm delighted that Ireland has been voted the most professionally turned out team in A1 Grand Prix. Among our targets in this season included the goal to be the best presented team right from the start and it's a testimony to the team's attention to detail that Ireland has set the standard in this first season of A1 Grand Prix racing."

A1 Team Ireland CEO Mark Kershaw added: "The A1 Grand Prix series has exceeded our expectations in many areas and the awards ceremony has given everyone the time to reflect on the massive achievement of having 25 national teams compete in 11 A1 Grand Prix events across the world. The standard of competition has been extremely high and it has been a very rewarding experience to bring Ireland into this arena as a serious contender.",",1,1,0,1,"2006-04-02 07:30:05
