Adderbury-based Formula Renault UK star Will Bratt feels certain his Scorpio Motorsport car will be competitive during the season finale at Silverstone National Circuit this weekend, despite not having had the best of times in official testing earlier today.
The Apotex Pharmaceuticals-backed sensation concluded today’s pair of 35-minute sessions with a best lap of 55.069 seconds (107.14mph) and although placing him less than seven 10ths of a second shy of the quickest time of all, the 18-year-old knows to be truly competitive he needs to improve by at least four 10ths of a second in qualifying.
“We made quite a fundamental change to the car after Brands Hatch and
the result left us with too much understeer during the morning session
today”, explained Will, “We managed to get rid of the understeer for
the afternoon but then we had quite a bit of oversteer through Copse
Corner which cost us a lot of time.
“Unfortunately the changes we made to the car have given us a bit of an
imbalance so we need to work hard to iron that out in time for
qualifying. We know though, if we can get the balance of the car sorted
we will gain a lot of time and should certainly be competitive
tomorrow.”
Unfortunately for Will, he has to miss tomorrow morning’s round 19
qualifying session due to a special Matriculation Ceremony at the
University of Oxford which clashes with the day’s opening Formula
Renault UK action, starting at 09.35.
Rightly taking precedence, Will’s commitment to the University – where
he is reading History at the establishment’s Lincoln College – ensures
he will be forced to start the first of the weekend’s two races from
the back of the grid. However, he will be back at the track in time for
round 20 qualifying tomorrow afternoon at 14.55.
The last two races of the Formula Renault UK season will take place on
Sunday, 15th October, with round 19 getting underway at 09.00 and the
20th and final round of the championship starting at 14.15.
Motors TV will broadcast both of the weekend’s races at Silverstone
live on channel 413 of the Sky Digital platform and through cable
provider NTL on channel 545.
