RUSSELL ROLLS RYAN IN RACE TWO

Drew Russell bounced back from a narrow loss in race one of the 2006 Shannons Australian Production Car Championship to comprehensively win race two and has taken the initial outright lead in the series.

Since the first race counted to class results only, Russell has reduced David Ryan’s lead to three points while Kosi Kalaitzidis and Darren Best continued their winning ways in Class B and C respectively.

With a 27 second starting advantage Class C showed the way with the Ford Focus of Best clear of Lauren Gray at the wheel of the Toyota Sportivo Echo. Darren Harris, his Proton Satria the third of the class, in problems early, unable to get some gears due to a selector problem.

Kalaitzidis in the Volkswagen Golf GTi led Class B where the 2005 Shannons Australian Production Car Champion Colin Osborne (Toyota Celica) was the nearest challenger ahead of Adam Beechey’s Honda Integra, Osborne’s team mate Ric Shaw, Stuart Riach (BMW), and the Toyota MR2’s of Phil Alexander and Trevor Keene.

Three seconds after Class B were away, came the faster Class A cars with the Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo of Ryan leading Russell while John Houlder (Falcon XR8), Nick Dunkley (XR6 Turbo), the Holden Commodore V8s of Steve Briffa and Leigh Mertens, and Chris Delfsma’s XR8 trailed.

Russell’s first chore was to get ahead of Class A rival Ryan
