AUSTRALIAN GT CHAMPIONSHIP HITS THE TRACK FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 2006
CARS From the Australian GT Championship has hit the track for the first time in 2006 at Wakefield Park raceway, near Goulburn, today.
Three practice sessions were held for the assembled field today, a field is still building to its expected peak of 24 entries for the much-anticipated season kickoff this weekend.
And whilst several entries elected not to run in today’s sessions, many competitors took advantage of perfect conditions at the 2.2km Goulburn circuit and completed plenty of laps throughout the day.
Canberra driver James Koundouris (Dare Shots / Supabarn Supermarkets Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car) set today’s fastest time, his best of 1m01.9791 coming in the second session today. James led Brother Theo in P2, whilst the situation was reversed in Practice three with Theo (2nd) ahead of James (3rd).
Victorian D’Arcy Russell (DuPont Chrysler Viper GTS ACR) showed impressive pace today, regularly lapping just a few tenths behind the more nimble Porsches in his heavy American muscle car.
Russell explained that the tight confines of the Wakefield circuit were taking its toll on the rear Tyres of his car.
