Murphy supports Hamilton NZ street race

New Zealand’s leading V8 Supercar driver, Greg Murphy has come out in support of today’s surprise announcement that a contract to host a V8 Supercar street race in his home country has been signed by the Hamilton City Council.

Not considered a contender, Hamilton beat out a number of other cities and purpose built motor racing venues bidding for the rights to hold the annual NZ V8 round, replacing the aging Pukekohe Raceway Park circuit from 2008.

Hamilton Mayor Michael Redman is believed to have brokered the deal in secret over the past eight months with V8 Supercars Australia, only briefing the council for the first time last week
