TEAM BRM TO TAKE ON NATIONAL FORMULA FORD FIELD IN 2006
TWO-TIME AUSTRALIAN Formula 3 Championship winning operation Team BRM will have the chance to fight for two major Australian Open Wheel Championships in 2006, after today confirming they will run a two car team in this year’s Australian Formula Ford Championship.
Adelaide-based Team BRM’s significant expansion into to full-time National Formula Ford competition comes after running a successful smaller program in 2005, concentrating on both Victorian and South Australian State Formula Ford competition.
The team has, however, today confirmed the purchase of two brand new, ’06-specification Van Diemen Formula Ford Chassis, Duratec Ford engines and associated spares to properly ensure the most competitive package possible for a complete national Formula Ford challenge this year.
The Formula Ford outfit will be based alongside team BRM’s existing Formula 3 program and will utilize the same facilities and crew members throughout the year - headed up by experienced Engineer Marcus Koch, former owner of British Formula Renault team Mach 1 Racing and himself a successful British Formula Ford driver.
Koch successfully engineered cars for both former F1 driver Luciano Burti and Jason Bargwanna during their respective stints in UK Formula Renault, Bargwanna during a Formula Renault world-cup style meeting held in the 1990s.
The move will allow Team BRM to offer its drivers a direct path through the Australian Open Wheel ranks from Formula Ford to Formula 3 competition, allowing up and coming drivers to work with the same experienced crew on both programs to give them the best possible chance of success.
Team director Mark Rundle said that plans had been on the drawing board for some time before today’s decision was reached.
