Two of the most important Rallycross meetings of the year will be taking place on consecutive weekends later in the month when Croft Circuit, North Yorkshire turns its attentions to both the British Championship and the Superprix.
On Sunday 22nd October, the final round of the Quaife MSA British Rallycross Championship will be fought out despite the title being won at Mondello last time out by Irishman Christopher Evans (Opel Astra) but there is bound to be plenty of challengers with drivers such as Pat Doran, Dermot Carnegie and John McCluskey looking to end the season in style.
There’s plenty of local interest with Northallerton’s Dave Bellerby (Lotus Exige) looking to rectify his one and only defeat of the year in the SuperModified class at Mondello as he plans to celebrate the championship in style whilst team mate Kevin Procter from Leeming hopes to do likewise after a big shunt in Ireland in his Ford Puma 4 x 4
With Barnard Castle’s ‘Mad’ Mark Watson (Citroen Xsara), Richmond starlet Ben Rennison and
fellow Mini driver Joe Cunningham from Bedale all hoping for a slice of
the action, the action is bound to be furious
The action gets underway at 12 noon with practice followed by the heats
and then the finals and adult admission costs just £10.00. Accompanied
children aged 15 and under will be admitted FREE and further
information is available at www.croftcircuit.co.uk or by ringing 01325 721815.
Meanwhile, plans are at an advanced stage for the Shannon Holdings
Rallycross Superprix which takes place the following weekend of
Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th October and which will feature the very
best drivers from Europe taking on their British and Irish counterparts.
With 13 times European Champion Kenneth Hansen (Citroen Xsara) from
Sweden heading the line up, the likes of Irishmen Christopher Evans –
the 2005 Superprix winner - and event sponsor Ollie O’Donovan (Peugeot
306), local hero Tony Bell (Toyota Corolla WRC) from Ferryhill and
Polish Champion Jacek Ptaszek (Toyota), there is no shortage of quality.
And with the organisers still working on securing some more of the very
top drivers for the few remaining grid slots, including two very famous
names, expect it to be the biggest Rallycross meeting in years at Croft
and more details will be announced shortly. Meanwhile discounted
weekend advance tickets, priced at just £18, are still available from www.croftcircuit.co.uk or by phoning 01325 721815.
Further official information will be distributed w/c 23rd October but in the meantime, log on to www.RallycrossSuperprix.co.uk for the latest information and entry lists.
