HOLT SCORSES A SERIES' SECOND IN TIGHT PERFORMANCE CAR SEASON ENDER
Century 21 Real Estate Racing driver Gary Holt has finished a fighting second outright in this years Donut King Australian Performance Car Championship, wrapping up his season-ending position after a consistent final round at the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit last weekend.
Holt’s 2005 results have concluded a fantastically successful era for the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution driver, who has been one of the most consistent performer’s over the last three years of Performance Car competition.
After a difficult weekend in Tasmania a fortnight beforehand, Holt headed to the fast and flowing 4.46km Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit trailing series’ points leader Peter Floyd’s HSV Commodore by 47.5 points, and was looking for a strong weekend to try and wrestle the Performance car crown from the Holden driver at a circuit expected to suit the big V8.
Holt was king of the turbo pack on Friday, fourth in the day’s sole practice session backed up by a strong third in Qualifying.
Things, however, didn’t go to plan in the opening race after a massive crash on the opening lap eliminated the two leaders
