HEAVY CRASH LEAVES FLOYD IN CHAMPIONSHIP RACE AGAINST TIME

What looked so promising on the grid for his team lasted for merely a couple of hundred metres and has left Peter Floyd’s quest to win the 2005 Donut King Australian Performance Car Championship in limbo.

Teammates Trevor Sheumack (www.kawasaki-fp.com HSV GTS) and championship leader Peter Floyd (BP Ultimate HSV GTS) dominated the Friday action in the final round of the championship at Phillip Island.

Floyd topped practice, before Sheumack claimed pole position with Floyd second in qualifying, making the front row of the grid an all green-machine affair.

However, less than 30 seconds after the start, a clash between the pair left both cars in the tyre barrier and Floyd’s championship battle dependant on a race of a different kind to repair the car in time for the final two races.

What is currently thought to be a brake problem sent Sheumack into the side of Floyd’s car entering turn two on the opening lap.

Both cars shot across the scenery - Floyd through the gravel trap, Sheumack on the grass - and hit the tyre wall at almost unabated speed. Such was the speed his car was still carrying, Sheumack’s car rolled over and ended up on its roof upon contact with the wall.
