Pit stop drama robs Ireland of top finish in Malaysia
A1 Team Ireland claims points in both Sprint and Feature Race.
Sepang, Kuala Lumpur, Nov 20th: A1 Team Ireland scored points with 7th and 9th placed finishes in the Sprint and Feature Races at the Malaysian A1 Grand Prix today, although a jammed wheel nut during the pit stop in the Feature Race cost the team 4th place and ultimately a podium finish. Ralph Firman started the Sprint Race from 3rd on the grid but lost five places during the course of the opening lap before overtaking A1 Team Malaysia to recover 7th. In the Feature Race he started well, taking 4th into the first corner and holding onto the battle for second place until the mid-race pit stop. Unfortunately the right rear wheel nut on the car was cross-threaded and cost the team 25 seconds, dropping Ralph down to 18th. He recovered well, however, setting good lap times and overtaking other competitors to finish 9th overall.
