PERFORMANCE CAR KING TO BE CROWNED AT PHILLIP ISLAND
After six rounds, 17 races and 197 laps, the 2005 Donut King Australian Performance Car Championship has boiled down to battle between Peter Floyd and Garry Holt, with the winner to be crowned next weekend at Victoria’s Phillip Island Raceway.
The championship lead has changed a number of times during the season. Chris Alajajian (Jack Hillermans Smash Subaru WRX STi) and Mark King (Delphi Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII) both had turns leading the field after wins in the early rounds.
King held the lead until round four, at Hidden Valley Raceway in Darwin, where Floyd (BP Ultimate HSV GTS) took the championship, which he has maintained ever since.
Entering the final round, Floyd leads second placed Holt (Century 21 Real Estate Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII) by 47.5 points, with 93 points on offer at Phillip Island.
It is a title battle with its little intricacies, on and off the track. Since the season commenced at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide back in March, Floyd hasn’t had a haircut.
