CRAMP LEADS HIGH HORSEPOWER HSV CHARGE AT SYMMONS PLAINS
It was all HSV at Symmons Plains Raceway today in the Donut King Australian Performance Car Championship, with Steve Cramp taking the round win and Peter Floyd extending his championship lead.
Cramp (CVW Engineering HSV GTS) took the round win, becoming the sixth different round winner in six rounds.
He headed an all-HSV top three, with Peter Floyd (BP Ultimate HSV GTS) second for the weekend and Barrie Nesbitt (Donut King Holden Monaro) completing the podium.
Floyd’s result sees him increase his championship lead. He entered today’s two scheduled races with a win in the opening ten lap race on Saturday under his belt.
He was beaten off the line by Cramp in race two, but that was shortly the least of his problems. At the hairpin, Garry Holt (Century 21 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII) made a move on Nesbitt, however he overshot the corner and tagged the rear of Floyd’s HSV, sending him into a spin and delaying the pair.
Holt, who later apologised to his championship rival for the error, served a stop-go penalty and limped home to thirteenth place in the battle-scared Lancer. Floyd, on the other hand dropped to the rear of the field but begun his charge back through the field, with an intermittently rubbing tyre the extent of his damage.
In the meantime, former Tasmanian resident Cramp bolted. He set a new lap record for the class, 59.8610 seconds, on his way to a three second win, his first for the season.
