Jeremy Metcalfe - Silverstone National Preview PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 05 October 2006
Formula Renault UK front-runner Jeremy Metcalfe heads to the final race meeting of the 2006 season at Silverstone National Circuit next weekend, 14th/15th October, aiming to end only his second ever year of car racing with a flourish.

The 18-year-old AKA Lemac star, who away from the track started his Economics and Politics degree course at Loughborough University earlier this week, will arrive at Silverstone fifth overall in the championship and aiming to close his 2006 account with one of his most successful weekends of the season.

Although a bid for a top three placing in the final driver standings is perhaps a bridge too far with Jeremy currently 35 points adrift of third place, the Fleet sensation knows he is not only capable of achieving his fifth and sixth podium finishes of the season, he will also be aiming to become the seventh different race winner in the series this year.

During an official test day at Silverstone’s 1.64-mile National Circuit in August, Jeremy produced a scintillating performance and although unable to complete his quickest lap of the day due to the session being red flagged, the Hampshire teenager only missed out on the top spot by a mere 0.001 seconds.

Following on from such an impressive test, Jeremy is looking forward to next weekend’s championship finale confident the AKA Lemac team will provide him with a car capable of challenging at the sharp end.

“I think Silverstone will be good”, commented the category front-runner, “It’s proven to be our best track in testing and during my first season in Formula Renault UK last year we enjoyed our best result on the National Circuit.

“I’m confident the last meeting of the season will bring a strong end to the championship for us but we need to get qualifying sorted. That’s the one area where we haven’t been strong enough of late so it’s important to turn that around and start higher up the grid at Silverstone to make our bid for the podium that bit easier.”

Jeremy added: “You can overtake at Silverstone National though, unlike at Brands Hatch Indy, so that bodes well as I’m a strong racer and I know I can make up places. To win would be fantastic but if we can end the season with at least one podium I’ll be happy. I am hoping to be on the podium for both races though to finish the year on a high.”

Round 19 qualifying will take place at 09.35 on Saturday, 14th October, with the round 20 session expected to start at 15.05. Both of the weekend’s races will be held on Sunday, 15th October, with round 19 beginning the day’s action at 09.00 and the final race of the season scheduled to get underway at 14.05.

Before then, there will be two pre-event Formula Renault UK test sessions on Friday, 13th October. Motors TV, meanwhile, will broadcast the Silverstone race action live on channel 413 of the Sky Digital platform and through cable provider NTL on channel 545.
