_sba2585Koiranen bros. Motorsport with new line up for final race of the season.

Following a forced absence, Koiranen bros. Motorsport returned for the final Eurocup event in Barcelona with two new drivers, Duarte Félix da Costa from Portugal, and Argentinean Facundo Crovo.

Duarte had very little time to settle in with his new team and car. Still, qualifying in the top 20 seemed to be easily within reach. When using the 2nd set of tires, and despite being in an almost empty track, Duarte caught two slow cars on what would be his best laps. Most drivers improved their times with the 2nd set, sending him back to 27th place for the start of both races.

Rookie driver Facundo, despite making steady improvements, outpacing his more experienced team mate and showing some early signs of great speed, struggled with the extremely competitive nature of the Eurocup, and could only manage 26th place for the start of both races.

Duarte put on a great show in the first few laps of the first race, and was running up in 17th place early on. Unfortunately he made a mistake, losing time and throwing away all the good work done until that point. He still finished in 15th position, indicating that a points finish would have been possible.

Facundo tangled with another car in the 2nd lap, and had to come to the pit for repairs. The car was fixed and he was sent out again, albeit two laps down. Running on his own, and with no pressure, he impressed everyone by posting the same lap times as the drivers running at the front!

The second race was more uneventful. Both drivers were locked in fierce fighting throughout the 16 laps, and finished in 18th and 23rd place.

The team would like to thank both drivers for their efforts this weekend.

It was a tough season for Koiranen bros. Motorsport. The team will now embark on an intensive winter testing program, and will be back in the fight next season.

Watch out!
