[Carerra Cup, UK] FAULKNER TAKES ANOTHER PORSCHE DOUBLE AT SNETTERTON PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 08 August 2005
Damien Faulkner continued his recent domination of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB with two more comfortable wins at Snetterton today (Sunday August 7th). His sixth win of the season, and fifth in a row, moved the experienced Irishman into a fifty seven point lead at the head of the championship and ever closer to the 2005 title.

Faulkner renewed his battle with championship rival Richard Westbrook in Friday's test and Saturday's qualifying session narrowly missing out on fastest time in both, but come race day it was Faulkner who was again the stronger. Starting second for race one the Donegal driver was in the lead by the first turn and never looked back as he took his SAS International backed Porsche to it's fifth win of the year. The under pressure Westbrook spun out on lap one which left Tim Harvey to chase the Irishman.

Faulkner opened up a comfortable lead and controlled the gap at around two seconds until lap ten, when Harvey began falling away to eventually finishing four and a half seconds down, despite the leader also dropping his pace. Faulkner got an unexpected championship boost when Westbrook was disqualified from third place, following a post race indiscretion, and received a further boost when he was also awarded the bonus point for setting fastest race lap.

Starting from pole for race two with Westbrook relegated to the back of the grid meant that another strong performance from the SAS driver was likely to make Faulkners championship claim even stronger. Driving within himself the former Indy Lights race winner was able to open up a four second gap to Harvey. Westbrook moved past Harvey into second on lap seven and initially looked to be closing the gap but Faulkner responded brilliantly to restore his four second margin over the hard charging Westbrook and keep him at bay till the flag.

"I am absolutely delighted for Team Parker who run my car and for my sponsor SAS International". said the overjoyed championship leader after race two. "Obviously I am happy for myself too, as I have further extended my championship lead. My goal at the last couple of events has been to be the highest points scorer over the two races and I have achieved that again this weekend. My aim now is to continue that for the remaining three race weekends and lift the championship."

Faulkner now takes his huge championship advantage to Knockhill in Scotland on August 27th & 28th where rounds fifteen and sixteen of the twenty round series take place.
