[Sportscar and GT Racing] ACEMCO Motorsports Bringing Improved S7-R to Lime Rock PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 29 June 2005
Spring Lake, Michigan -- ACEMCO Motorsports is headed to Lime Rock Park for round four of the American Le Mans Series. Drivers Terry Borcheller and Johnny Mowlem will pilot the number 63/ACEMCO Motorsports/Saleen s7-R in the two-hour and forty-five minute race to be run on July 4th.

The team has been busy throughout the month of June as they continue to develop the Saleen S7-R GT1. Opportunities have been taken to improve the engines power delivery, aero and the overall handling of the car since Mid-Ohio.

Lime Rock Park is the shortest track on the ALMS calendar, with its 1.53-mile layout with its eight-turns, all of which are right-handers except for one. The GT1 cars will be turning laps in less than a minute.

I haven't driven the car since our Mid-Ohio race, but I was obviously very pleased there as to how it went and that we had a strong podium and potentially could have had an even better result, said Johnny Mowlem. I'm looking forward to Lime Rock as ACEMCO have been out doing straight line and rig shaker work with the car so it will be interesting to see what improvements have come about. Lime Rock is a very short circuit and so the time gap between cars is normally quite small, so it may well be like last year where we qualify very close to the Corvettes, or maybe even ahead of them!

We did a couple of days straight line running at the runway outside of the teams shop, said Borcheller. The conditions were great; we had two days of real positive running. We have also spent some time at the suspension shaker. I am ready for Lime Rock, the car was good there last year, I nearly missed pole. So we are looking to have a very competitive weekend in Connecticut. With all of the improvements since last year there is no reason not to think that our chances are excellent.

We haven't sat idle during the month of June, said Jeff Giangrande, team owner. We have been doing some more suspension work as spent a couple of days testing. Our shop is located at an airport so we took the opportunity to do some straight-line runs to look at the aero of the car. I am confident that we are bringing a car to Lime Rock this is substantially better than we had at Mid-Ohio last month.

The Lime Rock Park race will be televised live the Speed Channel starting at 3:00 EST on Monday, July 4th.
