Christian racing drivers, engineers, team personnel and enthusiasts from all across the country will be meeting up on the 11th Nov for the CIM Annual conference, which is open to all.
Their aim will be to plan further progress toward the shared aim of promoting the gospel and providing chaplaincy and practical help to the motorsport community.
A former professional racing driver will be talking about his own faith and what the gospel means in the high-octane environment of racing and testing. He will be recounting his experiences in the Porsche Supercup series, as well as his Le Mans 24hr drive in a McLaren F1, before expanding on his current work in the F1 & Moto GP bike arena.
‘Racing Rev' Andy Lane will be talking about his chaplaincy to the Le Mans 24hr and American Sportscar series, as well as his Directorship of a Motorsport marketing & sponsorship consultancy.
CIM are looking to build on their success in January as their stand at the Autosport International Racing Car Show was flooded with visitors admiring the freshly liveried Ferrari 360 GT3, and learning about the work of CIM.
CIM Chairman John Clayton, an RAF Officer from Oxford (based at High Wycombe & Brize Norton) is expecting a vibrant event:
"After 6 years of CIM ministry, this promises to be another great time of fellowship, teaching, planning, ministry training and encouragement. Much of what we do is aimed at inspiring church people to ‘think outside the box' with how to reach people in the 21st century"
- CIM have an ever expanding network of racing drivers running with the ministry's branding on their vehicles. One of the primary aims of the organisation is to provide a Christian presence and/or chaplaincy in as many series as possible within the UK and abroad.
- CIM are looking to recruit volunteer staff to run the outreach work and the racing cars, and would like to hear from people who have a passion for motorsport and more importantly a passion to spread the gospel.
- CIM are keen to hear from businessmen with a brand or product to promote to discuss how we can open up new markets, help develop a strong brand identity, and at the same time promote Christian causes.
- CIM is a ‘not-for-profit' organisation (soon to be granted ‘charity status) staffed by volunteers, all of whom are committed Christians.
- The aim is to ‘put something back' into motorsport, a relatively opulent, materialistic and cut-throat world of sport and business.
- CIM works with existing Christian competitors to help them promote the gospel to a wide audience by using motorsport to reach people in the same way as the companies that sponsor racing cars (but CIM do not sponsor any motorsport).
- The outreach work of CIM is funded by the volunteers, drivers, supporters and sponsor firms rather than CIM funding the racing teams.
- CIM members support a number of motorsport-related school / youthwork projects such as:
