Kent based youngster top Brit in weekends big race at Brands Hatch.
17 year old Aaron Steele clinched second place overall in the Formula Palmer Audi Autumn trophy this weekend when he stood on the podium for all 3 of Sundays races. The remarkable statistics of the weekend include being fastest in practice and qualifying, leading the first race by nearly 10 seconds, breaking the lap record and completing a run of seven races without finishing lower than third place! On top of all that he gained a new nickname from the mechanics and staff of “Stainless Steele”.
The first race of the weekend looked in the bag as he led away at
record pace and all of his rivals had settled for following him home
before an accident brought out the safety car and closed everybody up
again. One tiny mistake at the first corner allowed 2nd place Dane
Cameron to narrowly slip through, and despite Aarons best efforts he
was unable to get the place back around the twisty Kent circuit. A
slightly downcast Aaron said “I had it all under control, including a
plan if there was a safety car, my restart after the safety was really
good, but the tyres were just a bit cooler than I expected into Paddock
hill bend, this forced me wide and I just couldn’t stop Dane slipping
through, but I definitely can’t be too upset by dominating the race for
so long and breaking the lap record!”
The second and third races netted Marketing Improvement backed Aaron
two more podiums, safely securing second place overall in the
standings, leaving Aaron musing “Obviously I’m delighted to have
finished second overall, there were some quick guys out there, many of
them much more experienced than me, some of them reigning champions,
but it still hurts not to have got at least one win. One thing is that
I have proved that I am as quick as anybody, so we have to look at 2007
and standing on the top step a few times”
