After an extremely successful second season, the team behind the revolutionary bonnet fastener AeroCatch begin their 2007 season by attending the Engineering Show at Autosport International, based at the NEC in Birmingham, on stand E500 between the 11th and 12th of January.
AeroCatch has been used on the Team Dynamics prepared Honda Integra-Rs under the Team Halfords banner in the British Touring Car Championship to secure the bonnet and boot since the start of the 2005 season, just weeks after the official launch of the product. During this period, Team Halfords have won back-to-back team and driver titles, the latter courtesy of Matt Neal. The system was also used in 2006 by Team Eurotech and Motorbase in the BTCC following their purchase of ex-Team Halfords 2005 spec Integra-R’s.
Despite being in existence for just two years, the popularity of
AeroCatch continues to grow as manufacturers, teams and car owners from
club level right up to the World Touring Car Championship and Prototype
Sportscars become more aware of the unique benefits of AeroCatch’s
patented design.
The idea behind AeroCatch was to offer a modern panel fastening
solution compared to the older ‘sliding pin’ design. AeroCatch’s
characteristics are ideally suited to the motorsport environment -being
made from corrosion free glass-reinforced thermoplastic – together with
being very light in weight. The flush design makes it aerodynamically
efficient and the unit can be painted to blend in with a vehicle’s
livery. Once fully closed the fastener is 100% reliable, eliminating
any chance incidents such as the bonnet flying open.
GOING GLOBAL
AeroCatch has been used in a multitude of applications on various
competition vehicles across the globe, from D1 GB Drift series cars to
a Ford Falcon V8 in New Zealand, through to Peugeot 307’s in China and
even the British Armed Forces Rally Team Land Rovers. This is just a
rapid selection of the rise in popularity the product has encountered
since its launch.
The kit is currently available in two different forms, both of which
can have a key locking facility if desired. The most common used in
motorsport at the present time is the ‘Plus Flush’ version, which
features a surface border. This is the version that was used on all
the Honda Integras in this season’s BTCC. However, the ‘Flush’ version
– mounted underneath a panel so the surface is 100% flush - is becoming
more popular, being used on applications including Le Mans Prototypes
and Rally cars. AeroCatch is easy to fit and can even use existing
stud strikes. Retail prices range from £34.99 up to £39.49 for the key
locking version.
