Sydney-sider Jacky Yick joins Proconcept Racing to compete in the 2007 Improved Production Racing Association (IPRA) NSW State Championships. Yick’s Honda Civic EK4 was recently log booked for Improved Production Racing, adding another Honda Civic EK4 to Proconcept Racing’s winning arsenal – the other Civic driven by Louis Chan.
It’s been 4 months since Yick took delivery of the ex-HTCC (Hong Kong Touring Car Championship) Honda Civic EK4. The shakedown during the first test run at Wakefield Park resulted in a fastest time of 69.4080 seconds. A clear top 5 outright contender.
“To be honest I was expecting the car to do 1:09's. I was even hoping
to get into 1:08's, but I think with a few more improvements, it is
possible,” explains Yick.
Although it will be Yick’s debut in the IPRA series, Yick previously
campaigned in Production Sports Cars in 2003 - 2004, and more recently,
the Hong Kong Touring Car Championship and Macau Indoor Games Cup.
Yick is also no stranger to setting benchmarks, and is aiming high in
next year’s championship.
“After seeing the speed of Louis' car (no. 7) last year, the goal is to
certainly win the U2L 0-1600cc class in 2007. We just need to make sure
our car is reliable so we finish every race, because that's what wins
the championship. The car is already proven to be on pace, so it will
then be a matter of being more and more competitive as each round
progresses.
“In terms of outright position, I hope I can sneak in a podium result
in a one of the trophy races. I know it won't be easy with the tough
competition in the U2L class, but with a bit of luck I think that's
achievable.
“Joshua (Team Manager, Proconcept Racing) has been a major supporter
of my racing in Production Sports Cars since 2003. His professionalism
and knowledge is unbelievable - having previously been involved in
campaigns in the Asian Touring Cars Championships, and GTP here in
Australia. When this chance came up to join Proconcept Racing as a
Team Principal, I just couldn't refuse.
“With the 3rd Honda Civic racecar due to arrive mid-February, it’s
going to be a great year for Proconcept Racing and I'm very happy to be
part of it,” said Yick.
The first round of the 2007 IPRA NSW State Championship kicks off at Wakefield Park, April 14-15.
