Bird Re-signs With Carlin For British Formula Three PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 11 January 2007
Sam BirdSam Bird (20, Claygate) has chosen to return to Carlin Motorsport for his assault on the British Formula Three Championship in 2007.  The team, which has won the prestigious title three times in recent history, has this week announced that it will switch to Mercedes-Benz engines for the forthcoming season.

Sam drove with Carlin in his first ever season of car racing in 2004 when he won a scholarship to drive in the inaugural Formula BMW UK Championship.  “I was very comfortable with the Carlin team then and am delighted to return to them for 2007” said Sam  “it’s a fantastic outfit and a championship-winning team, and with the Mercedes engine deal they should be in a good position to return to the top step of the championship podium”.

Team Principal, Trevor Carlin said, “It’s excellent to have Sam back with us.  We were very pleased with his performance back in 2004 and have kept in touch and monitored his progress ever since.  It’s great that now Sam is ready to make the step up into F3, he can do it with his old team.”

Formula 3 testing commences in mid-February and the season kicks off at one of Sam’s favourite circuits, Oulton Park, on Easter Monday.
