Tom Chilton and Fabrizio Giovanardi drove faultlessly this morning at Brands Hatch to turn a disappointing qualifying into a brilliant opportunity.
The pair finished fourth and sixth in the first race from eighth and ninth on the grid. The result means the pair will start on the second and third rows of the grid for the second race at 13:20.
In his efforts to make up places from 12th on the grid Gavin Smith collided with Jason Hughes and did not make the first corner.
John Morton, VX Racing Technical Director: "I'm pleased with the result. The drivers did very well.
"There's lots we can do between now and the next race. We were testing for differnt things between the two cars and we were obvioulsy in the wrong direction with Fabrizio's but we did something right with Tom's. We've got to take another step with Tom but I'm confident we can find the time."
Fabrizio Giovanardi: "It was a drama! I was lucky. I can't wait for the other drivers to come off though. I need to fight. We will change something for race two."
