Formula 3 Australia has today officially confirmed its nine-event program that will make up the schedule for the 51st running of Australia’s highest Open Wheel award: The CAMS Gold Star.
The 2007 Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship schedule features a number of circuits perfectly suited to the high-speed nature of the wings-and-clicks category, now amongst the fastest cars on Australian soil.
The championship begins as a primary support category to the
prestigious A1GP World Cup of Motorsport event at Eastern Creek, on
February 2 – 4.
A1 Team Australia seat holder Alan Jones serves as category patron to
Formula 3 Australia whilst former series champion Karl Reindler has
been recently nominated the lead driver for the national team for his
home event.
The series will then once again return to the Formula 1 ™ ING
Australian Grand Prix for a non-championship hit-out on March 15- 18.
The 2006 running of the Grand Prix event will be memorable for it’s
international flavor and competitive action on the Albert Park street
circuit, a track perfectly suited to one of Formula 1’s foremost
developmental categories.
The venue of the final round for 2006, Oran Park Raceway, returns early
in 2007 (In late April) for round two, before the series crosses the
bridge to Phillip Island for it’s now traditional May visit for the
third of eight rounds.
Mallala Raceway in South Australia retains it’s similarly traditional
mid-winter date in late June, whilst a return to the flowing Eastern
Creek Raceway in Mid July will sort the contenders from the pretenders
in the chase for the championship.
Another run at Phillip Island in mid August will be followed by a trip
across Bass straight for a return to Symmons Plains, on September 1 – 2.
The eighth and final round of the championship is yet to be confirmed,
however series organizers hope to have a location settled on before the
opening round of the 2007 championship.
The series will once again be a headline act of the CAMS National
Racing Championship schedule that also features categories like the
Australian Production Car Championship, Saloon Cars, Commodore Cup and
the Australian GT Championship.
Each round will once again be made up of two, 30minute races, with a
total of 16 races and eight rounds making up the championship proper.
Three classes, Championship, National and Trophy, will make up the
field.
Kumho Tyres have retained their status as the series naming rights sponsor and official tyre supplier to all nine events.
