John Magro Completes Team BRM Lineup For Formula Ford Championship PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 16 January 2007
John Magro will drive for Team BRM in the 2007 Australian Formula Ford Championship.Team BRM is pleased to today confirm that its chances for success in the Australian Formula Ford Championship have been doubled thanks to the signing of John Magro for the 2007 season.

20-year-old Magro, from Northern Queensland, completes Team BRMs lineup for its first full-time attack on the Australian Formula Ford Championship and gives the team a strong two car team of youthful exuberance and plenty of sheer speed.

Paul Pittam will join Magro in a strong two-car lineup for Team BRM in 2007.John joins South Australian youngster Paul Pittam (Who will drive the #99 L.J Hooker Gawler Van Diemen) in the teams confirmed 2007 lineup.

Magro will drive the #20 car in the 2007 championship after racing with Team BRM in the 2006 South Australian Formula Ford state series. Despite it being his first full championship in a circuit racing car, Magro finished second in the series.

An even more impressive performance came from Magro at the Mallala round of last year’s National Championship, where – in his National championship debut – he set the third fastest race lap of the weekend and showed that he was competitive within the already tight Formula Ford field.

“We are very pleased to be able to complete our driver lineup with a driver like John,” Team BRM Formula Ford manager Mark Rundle said.

“John impressed us last year with his pace despite it being his first full year in an Open Wheel racing car. He adapted well to the team and the car and has done a great job in testing so far this summer. It’s great to have our two drivers locked away this early in the season so we can now focus on the remainder of our extensive testing program to make sure we come out at the Clipsal 500 on top of our game.” He said.

Magro, who comes from a background in speedway racing in Northern Queensland, said that he was looking forward to racing with Team BRM in their first full Australian Formula Ford Championship attack.

“Team BRM is a very professional team and I’m happy to be joining the team for this season,” Magro said.

“This year is going to be really good. I’d like to be in the top five in the championship, which I think is a realistic aim. It took a while to adapt to the Formula Ford but it helped doing the SA State series and the Mallala national round last year.

“The pace I had there gave me a lot of confidence for the year ahead.” He said.

Team BRM has an exhaustive testing program in place for both prior to the start of the 2007 championship at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide, in early March, to give the team the best possible opportunity of winning their home event.

Adelaide-based Team BRM is the only team in Australia that competes in both the Australian Formula Ford and Australian Formula 3 Championships. In 2006 the team won the Formula 3 Championship – its third title in five years – and placed driver Ben Clucas on the Australian Formula Ford podium at the Clipsal 500 – on the team’s debut in the series.
