Normally to be found patrolling the pit lane in the British Superbike Championship when not behind the Editor’s desk of Motorcycle Racer Magazine and amongst his various other motorsporting assignments, intrepid Yorkshireman Larry ‘Scoop’ Carter tried his hand in the world of four wheels by competing in a pair of single stage car rallies held at Croft Circuit.
Having taken to the wheel of the CS Rallysport 1600cc Peugeot 206 for only the second time, the Northallerton pairing of Carter and co driver Richard Place followed up their top forty placing in December’s Specsavers Christmas Stages Rally with a similar result on yesterday’s Jack Frost Stages Rally.
Out of the ninety car entry on both events, Carter was seeded at 68
both times but finished in 39th overall on both the Northallerton AC
and Darlington & DMC events and in doing so, finished as second
novice on the Christmas Stages as he took seventh in class and repeated
the feat on the Jack Frost to round off a successful couple of weeks at
the North Yorkshire track.
Commenting on the result, ‘Scoop’ said: “Rallying is a very strong
passion of mine and having had plenty of success as a co-driver in the
past, I fancied the idea of driving. We used the car a year ago at
Croft but had a problem on that event but to safely see the finish of
these two rallies was very rewarding. You learn an awful lot about car
control and despite the weather, it was great fun and I’ll be back
again next year!”
“I’d like to thank Dunlop Tyres, Alpinestars and Simon Bailes Peugeot
for their help as well as the CS Rallysport Team and my co-driver Rich
but that bit of fun is now over so it’s back to work in preparation for
what looks to be another busy racing season.”
Readers of Motorcycle Racer can read about Carter’s exploits in the
rallying world in the next issue of the magazine which goes on sale
early next month.
