Jim Ka To wins PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 21 January 2007
zic_afr_jan_01On 20th January, Formula Renault held its first race of the year at ZIC. Although the race is only 10 laps long, the damp conditions and low temperatures still made the race spectacular to watch.

All the cars joined the warm-up lap as planned. The cars zig-zagged a lot during the lap in order to maximise the tyre temperatures. The race began on time and no. 2 Jim Ka To entered T1 ahead of the field from pole position. As the cars lacked grip, nobody was willing to risk anything, making a very smooth lap 1 for the race. Ka To finished lap 1 2.2 seconds ahead of the Swedish duo, no. 22 Felix Rosengvist and no. 23 Fredrik Blomstedt.

Although the Swedish duo have not made any serious attacks, they followed Jim Ka To closely. The fight behind the leaders were more intense and attracted the spectators' attention. On lap 6, the leading trio were over 10 seconds ahead of the rest.

Blomstedt tried to close the gap to Rosengvist but he outbraked himself a little into the corner, it seems that their brakes were not really up to temperature in this cool weather. Blomstedt lost time but remained in third place.

On the last lap, Jim Ka To was a full 3 seconds ahead of the two Swedish teenagers. Rosengvist finished second and Blomstedt took third place.

The first race of the year is still very green for the new drivers who are not familiar with the track conditions. The second race will be at 3:45pm tomorrow (21st January) and it will certainly be more exciting than today.
