Porsche factory driver Sascha Maassen will return to the American Le
Mans Series this season, hoping to repeat his 2006 LMP2
co-championship. Maassen, of Raeren, Belgium, will drive the No. 6
Penske Racing Porsche RS Spyder with Ryan Briscoe of Indianapolis, Ind.
"I thank Porsche and Penske for allowing me to defend my championship
and I'm really happy to be part of the whole program again, as it is
the best program I've ever been involved in," Maassen said.
"I'm very happy that Ryan and I are going to drive together. He's
quick, he's a nice guy, easy to get along with – I haven't found a weak
point. I'm looking forward to a great season with a lot more
competition than last year; it seems that we have attracted some other
teams to join the championship."
Maassen will participate in a series test at Sebring International
Raceway in Sebring, Fla., this week, in preparation for the Mobil 1
Twelve Hours of Sebring, which opens the ALMS season on March 17.
