Freestyle Motocross Nationals Round At The WPS Bathurst International Motor Festival PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 29 January 2007
The WPS Bathurst International Motor Festival is aiming to incorporate all aspects of the motoring industry at the spiritual home of Australian motorsport – Mount Panorama.

While circuit racing was the focus at the inaugural Festival in 2006, Event Organisers are continually looking at ways of improving the event and including other elements as the 2007 Festival, to be held over the 6th to 8th of April, comes closer.

In addition to circuit racing, the re-introduction of the WPS Bathurst 12 Hour Showroom Enduro and demonstrations by the cars of yesteryear; the bikes will be back at Bathurst in 2007.

There will be stunt bikes and freestyle motocross (FMX) riders in attendance at the 2007 WPS Bathurst International Motor Festival. FMX demonstrations, presented by Raceline Events, will be held on Pit Straight daily and the opening round of the Freerider Magazine FMX National Championship will be held on a specially designed track in Harris Park (within the circuit) across the three days of the Festival.

It is the first time a round of the National Championship has been conducted outside of Queensland.

With the National Grand Final being held on the Gold Coast two weeks later competitors will travel from all across Australia to compete in both rounds of the two-round series.

One of the headline acts of the 2007 Freerider Magazine FMX Nationals will be Robbie Adelberg from Victoria who has previously toured with the famous Crusty Demons of Dirt tour and also competed overseas. Adelberg first contested the FMX Nationals as a 14-year-old four years ago and won last year’s event.

Over the past month Adelberg has been in training with Robbie Maddison where he has been completing 75-foot back flips and is will be aiming to add this trick, along with variations, to his bag of tricks to begin his title defence.

“Over the past few years Australian riders have shown they are amongst the best freestyle motocross riders in the world, many of these guys will be in action over Easter at the Bathurst Festival,” said FMX Nationals Promoter Ian Badock.

“We anticipate up to 30 riders from across the country to compete and with riders like Adelberg, Chris Thompson, Jay and Josh Woolley from Tasmania along with Luke Cole, who was the Red Bull rider of the year last year, there will be a lot of talent and depth in the entries.”

Organisers have also extended an invitation to all motorcycle groups from across Australia to attend the 2007 WPS Festival, with a special package for groups of six (6) or more people.

“The WPS Festival has been designed to attract a wide variety of spectators, not merely the circuit motor racing fan hence the inclusion of a round of the National FMX Championship in 2007,” said Event Director James O’Brien.

“We welcome motorcycle clubs from across Australia to participate in the WPS Festival and, pending interest from motorcycle groups this year, there are a number of other bike related activities being considered in future years.”
