As part of ANCRO’s package to entice more two wheel drive competitors into the 2007 Hankook MSA Gravel Rally Championship, leading competitor and ANCRO stalwart Marcus Dodd has come up with a unique offer of a funded prize drive for the leading two-wheel drive (2WD) competitor at the end of the year.
The former double ANCRO champion, who runs the HPM Motorsport emporium
in Dorset, has been working extensively with the organising committee
and as a result, it has been agreed that the highest placed 2WD driver
in the Hankook GRC will be offered the chance to compete on an agreed
event in one of the team’s Hyundai Accent World Rally Cars.
As well as getting use of the HPM Motorsport car for that particular
event of their choice, the lucky winner will get to participate in a
pre-event test session as well as benefiting from some driver coaching
from the four times winner of Rallye Sunseeker.
“For some time now I’ve been wondering what I could do to help ANCRO
encourage more two wheel drive cars into the main championship and this
is a good incentive. The only proviso which we are putting on it is
that there must be healthy competition befitting of a prize of this
magnitude. Therefore for the prize to be awarded, then there must be at
least eight points scorers in two wheel drive cars in this year’s final
championship standing” said Marcus.
ANCRO Marketing Manager Dilys Trevethick commented: “It is a wonderful
prize for which we are very grateful to Marcus, Harry and Pam Dodd for
offering. It will hopefully achieve our joint aim of filling up some of
the empty classes which have been in evidence over the past few years
and adds a new dimension to the Hankook GRC.”
Open to all ANCRO registered 2WD competitors carrying a pair of HPM
decals, there is no additional registration fee for the HPM Investments
2WD Challenge and with points scored down to 22nd place overall on each
event, this latest incentive is sure to fire the imagination of many
crews looking to get the chance to drive a World Rally Car which they
might not otherwise get.
Competitor’s best five scores out of the seven rounds will count plus
there will be coverage on TV with Sky Sports’ Rally Fever programme to
add to the package.
In addition, plans are at an advanced stage regarding a special prize
for 1400cc competitors and an announcement will be made soon regarding
these.
Incorporating many championships including the Mitsubishi Evolution
Challenge and Evolution Cup, the Subaru Group N Trophy and the HPM
Investments 2WD Challenge, The Hankook GRC gets underway with Rallye
Sunseeker, which comprises the opening round of the series in
Bournemouth on February 23/24.
The cost to register with ANCRO is £95 for drivers and £85 for co
drivers and for a set of championship regulations, please contact
