A1 Team Lebanon star Basil Shaaban put in a superb performance at Bedford Autodrome on Thursday (1 February) as he tested a Formula Palmer Audi car for the first time.
Shaaban, 26, who has made 16 starts for his country in A1GP, set a stunning time of 1m04.72s around the 1.8-mile West Circuit at Bedford, the fastest time set so far at Bedford in 2007. After the test, Shaaban expressed his delight at driving the 300bhp turbocharged single-seater.
"The FPA feels really good to drive," said Shaaban. "It's a solid, well
handling car and a lot of fun, and it's quite similar to an A1GP car
with braking and turn in. I really enjoyed driving it and was very
happy with my laptime."
In addition to his continuing 'national service' in the World Cup Of
Motorsport, Basil is keen on competing in the 2007 FPA Championship,
which kicks off at Silverstone on 7 April: "I hope to be racing in FPA
this year and have been impressed with how professional everything and
everybody has been."
FPA series boss and former Formula 1 driver Jonathan Palmer was
thoroughly impressed at Basil's efforts: "Basil set a superb time and
I'm looking forward to seeing him race in FPA."
The 2007 Championship takes in 20 races at eight of the best circuits
in the UK, including Brands Hatch, Donington Park and Oulton Park.
