Brands Hatch Test Goes To Plan For Bratt PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 25 September 2006
Will Bratt concluded official Formula Renault UK testing at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit this afternoon pleased with the ground work Scorpio Motorsport has completed ahead of the weekend’s 17th and 18th rounds of the season at the renowned Kent venue.

With wet weather affecting both of today’s 50-minute sessions, the rankings at the end of the test were immaterial with a small number of drivers managing to make the most of a very short period of drier track time midway through the morning session and others concentrating more on car set-up work for the majority of the day.

Adderbury-based Will, who is backed by Apotex Pharmaceuticals, posted the 13th fastest time in the afternoon with a lap of 49.613 seconds (86.97mph) and had he not been held up by a slower car during the final minute of the session, he would almost certainly have been in or around the top six.

The morning session saw Will surprisingly classified in 24th position with a lap of 50.195 seconds (85.95mph) – but the times alone certainly didn’t tell the whole story. Using the first session to focus on set-up and tyre work, the 18-year-old is confident he will be in his customary position as a front-running contender during qualifying tomorrow.

“We’re pretty happy with the way things turned out today”, said Will, “The times don’t indicate our true pace as we spent the morning working on car set-up, scrubbing tyres and generally trying to give ourselves a good car for qualifying.

“In the afternoon we would have been faster than 13th position but I was stuck behind a slower car on my quickest lap at the end. We’re still happy with our work today though and, potentially, the car will be strong for the weekend.”

The Oxon ace added: “We are reasonably confident ahead of qualifying tomorrow. The team will study the data from all of the work we completed today, compare it with what David (Epton; Scorpio team-mate) was doing and then set the cars up accordingly. I’m fairly sure we’ll be able to challenge near the front.”

Returning to its usual slot on the British Touring Car Championship support package, qualifying for rounds 17 and 18 of the Formula Renault UK Championship will take place tomorrow, Saturday, 23rd September, at 11.20 and 16.00 respectively.

Both races will then be held on Sunday, 24th September, with round 17 getting underway at 11.55 and round 18 expected to start at 15.05. Sunday’s action will be broadcast live on Motors TV, channel 413 of the Sky Digital platform and through cable provider NTL on channel 545.
