In a groundbreaking initiative, one of the biggest and most powerful gatherings of assorted drag racing sedans will be assembled at Queensland’s Willowbank Raceway during 2007 at the QT Tin Top Titles on April 28.
The original format of the Tin Tops was born out of the old Surfers Paradise strip, where, at the time Victor Bray who is currently leading Top Doorslammer, was carving out the infancy of a successful career which has now netted six Australian championships.
The April program features the penultimate round of Group One activity
in Top Doorslammer and Pro Stock categories as drivers enjoy one final
hit out prior to the season-ending Willowbank Winternationals on June
8-10.
In providing the greatly anticipated return to a complete tin top sedan
showcase, Willowbank Raceway will instigate something special for every
racing enthusiast at the QT Tin Top Titles.
Four wheels and a roof to boot will be standard for all entries in this
quarter mile extravaganza, which brings together many traditional drag
racing categories coupled with a selection of unique race cars that
enjoy cult following among their loyal fans.
“For sheer entertainment value it’s very hard to go past Top
Doorslammer and Pro Stock brackets simply because of the closeness in
racing and the many on-track rivalries among racers,” said Willowbank
Raceway General Manager Steve Bettes.
“We’ll step back in time on April 28 to incorporate a vast array of
sedan classes, packaged on a full day/night program of the QT Tin Top
Titles.
“How ironic that we revert back to such a popular drag racing format at
the very same time which local icons Victor Bray and Gary Phillips hold
court in the Top Doorslammer championship chase.
“Technological advancements have seen both Top Doorslammer and Pro
Stock categories move from strength-to-strength and in line with this
has been the introduction of many exciting, alternative sedan classes.
“For the first time ever in Australia we’re expecting full fields throughout a huge cross section of car categories.
“Interest from close to 50 drivers has been filtering among Sports
Compact classes of drag racing (Pro Turbo/Pro Compact & Street 289)
and likewise numbers are anticipated in the prestigious Pro Street and
Pro Street Outlaw brackets.
“Coupled with the more traditional Super Stock, Super Sedan, Super
Street and Super Gas competitors on one huge program, makes the QT Tin
Top Titles a must for all racing fans.
“The incorporation of such distinct racing brackets will see a blend of
traditional American and Australian car culture mixed with high
powered, turbocharged piston and rotary action which will further
complement the Group One package of Top Doorslammer and Pro Stock.”
In essence the format of the QT Tin Top Titles will see the realisation
of drag racing activities inclusive of the vastly popular Fast Fours
Jamboree and Powercruise scenes which have continually attracted
massive interest among drag racing fans.
