World's Fastest Jeweller Set For Sydney Debut PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 07 February 2007
A comprehensive two days of testing at Queensland’s Willowbank Raceway has ensured the World’s fastest jeweller, Stuart Bishop is ready to make a genuine assault of the Top Doorslammer drag racing ranks, when he makes his New South Wales debut at Western Sydney’s Summernationals on February 16/17.

The Chief Executive Officer of national jewellery chain Wallace Bishop Jewellers has fine tuned his impressive 3500 horsepower ’67 Camaro Diamond Doorslammer and is confident of a good showing among a crack field of more than 20 drivers.

On his last outing, during Willowbank’s Australian Nationals in September, Bishop mastered a personal best 6.07 second pass over the quarter mile and knows he’ll need to emulate further consistency to have a chance among a stellar field in Sydney.

Fellow Queenslander, six-time Australian champion and current series leader Victor Bray is the one to beat, however Bishop’s motivations towards his Southern debut are also centred around encouraging fans to enter into a unique National photographic competition.

“With the support of Wallace Bishop Jewellers we’ve implemented a drag racing specific competition where we’re asking fans to shoot as many and varied photos of drag racing at their local track and have the opportunity to share in more than $20 000 worth of cash and prizes,” said Bishop.

“While the competition is open to all ages and covers all drag racing mediums, there are categories specific to my Doorslammer so I thought it only right to try and fit in some time to race in Sydney.

“The Diamond Doorslammer is a show car and very much a unique piece of machinery.

“An encrusted diamond configuration of more than 540 cubic zirconia, plus a strategically placed half carat, 50-point diamond on the roof provide the centrepiece of the car’s overall look, which complements the aesthetic appeal of the entire package.”

The past two days of testing have reaffirmed that Bishop’s beautifully presented Doorslammer has plenty of muscle to match its good looks.

A series of launches coupled with component adjustments netted a pleasing result for the jeweller and he’s now keener than ever to swap business attire for a driver’s suit in the pursuit of quarter mile drag racing glory in Sydney.

“We’ll put on a great show for the fans in Sydney and after such a lengthy lay-off from competition I’m itching to get back out on the track,” confirmed Bishop.

“With what we achieved at the Nationals at home in Queensland there is now a stronger belief among the team that we can compete at the top level.

“Because of a continually heavy work schedule at Wallace Bishop Jewellers it’s hard to get in as much track time as I’d like but there’s no doubt we’ll be better off for the run after the past two days testing.

“All the big hitters of Top Doorslammer are nominated for Sydney including Championship front-runners Victor Bray and Gary Phillips and I’m sure the return of two-time Australian champion Ben Bray will make for an even tighter contest.”

Drag racing fans young and old are encouraged to involve themselves in the Wallace Bishop Jewellers National Photographic competition and go in the running to win some great prizes.

Opportunities abound Australia-wide to shoot images at your local race track and forward them through the website www.stuartbishopracing.com.au to enter.

Simply by taking photos of all the drag racing action on and off the track, then submitting images into the competition, individuals will go in the running to win cash and prizes worth more than $20 000, courtesy of Wallace Bishop Jewellers.

The length and breadth of the country will play host to a vast array of quarter mile drag racing action, coordinated at the three major venues in Ipswich, Sydney and Perth, plus plenty of smaller hotspots in between.

It’s not just the major venues that will be pumping with quarter mile drag racing action in 2007, as some of the smaller quarter and eighth mile facilities get in on the act.

Stretching along the East Coast of Australia, Victoria’s South Coast Raceway at Portland has regularly scheduled race meetings and it’s a similar story at Tasmania’s Motors-ACDelco strip.

Mildura’s Sunset Strip in Victoria, Darwin’s Hidden Valley Drag Strip and Queensland’s Palmyra Dragway (Mackay), Benaraby Raceway (Gladstone) and Warwick Dragway are also bound to have plenty of high speed thrills in store during the year.

Full details of the Wallace Bishop photographic competition are available at www.stuartbishopracing.com.au as is all the new up to date information relevant to the SBR team and the ’67 Camaro Diamond Doorslammer.
