Yokohama ADVAN is hoping for a repeat performance of its stunning pole position at Donington Park last month, as the Le Mans Series Championship moves to Spain this weekend.
At the previous round, Jean-Marc Gounon registered the fastest time in his Courage Competition LMP1, delivering Yokohama ADVAN’s first LMS pole position ever. “It is my job to show how fast the Courage can be,” said Gounon modestly.
The Frenchman set a time of 1:20.756 on his last lap snatching pole
from Stefan Johansson as the chequered flag waved the end of the
session.
“We know we can compete at the front now,” said Yokohama Europe’s
Marketing Manager, Kazuyoshi Sekiguchi. “You only need one pole to know
you can deliver more, you only need one win to know you can become
champions. I really look forward to our first win.”
Situated just 30 km north of Madrid, the former Formula One track
favours strong aerodynamics with its succession of both sharp and slow
corners unfolding over 3.850 km.
As well as Courage Competition, which competes in the LMP1 class,
Yokohama also supplies tyres to Team Farnbacher racing in the GT2
class.
At Donington, Team Farnbacher took five points with its Porsche 996 GT3
RSR, but is aiming to improve further still this weekend with
Yokohama’s help.
The fifth and final round of the Le Mans Series begins on Friday with
practice sessions at 12.45 and 16.00 CET. Saturday sees a morning
practise at 11.00. LMP1 and LMP2 qualifying is at 15.30 followed by GT1
and GT2 qualifying at 16.00. The six hour race starts at 12.00 on
Sunday. Extensive live coverage will be shown on Motors TV.
