Successful First Road Course Test For Ambrose In Virginia PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 09 February 2007
Marcos Ambrose has completed a successful day of testing on the Virginia International Raceway road course in Virginia today.

The Australian drove a NASCAR on a road course for the first time and was pleased with how quickly he became comfortable in the Aussie Vineyards-backed #59 Kingsford Charcoal Ford Fusion around the Virginia International Raceway (VIR) layout.

Ambrose relished the opportunity to reacquaint himself with road course driving while exploring the limits of a NASCAR on a road course for the first time. He and the Aussie Vineyards-backed #59 Kingsford Charcoal team had yet another productive day of working together and refining set-ups in what is the team’s last test before the start of the NASCAR Busch Series season.

Ambrose, a two-time Australian V8 Supercar Champion, quickly adjusted to the 750 horsepower machine and leaves the test confident that the day’s testing will ensure the team is prepared for Ambrose’s first NASCAR race on a road course. Race 3 of the NASCAR Busch Series will be held on the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City, Mexico.

Ambrose will make his NASCAR Busch Series debut in the Aussie Vineyards-backed #59 Kingsford Charcoal Ford Fusion on February 17 at Daytona International Raceway in Florida.

“This was another really strong day for us today and I felt comfortable in the car and on the road course very quickly,” said Ambrose.

“These cars are a lot heavier and have a lot more power than the V8 Supercars I drove back in Australia, so you need to have a different approach to driving them fast around a road course. They have lots of power and a lot of RPM to play with because they rev quite high, so you have to make sure you don’t ‘over-rev’ them.

“It was certainly an interesting experience to drive one of these cars around a road course and discover what is required to drive one fast. It was something that I really enjoyed.

“It was a constructive day. We just worked through the basics to get the car working well.

“This track is a good track and perfect for what we needed to do today. It has a flat section with some tight corners, which is something we need to have the car working well for in Mexico, and it has a fast and undulating section around the back that will be similar to a track like Watkins Glen.

“You don’t get to test on a road course too often so it was a good experience to get out there and try some things. We worked through a lot today and it was another top effort from the team.

“Now we look ahead to Daytona and the first race of the NASCAR Busch Series season.”
