2006 T Cars Champion Luciano Bacheta has confirmed his challenge for the 2007 Formula Palmer Audi Championship.
Bacheta, 16, added his name to the illustrious list of T Car champions last season after notching up six successive victories in the junior saloon series. After winning two races at Snetterton in the FPA Autumn Trophy in November, the Essex youngster reckons he can go all the way in his first full year of single-seater racing.
"It's a long season, but I wouldn't be racing if I wasn't trying to win
so we'll see what happens," said Bacheta, who will line up on the grid
when the season kicks off at Silverstone on 7 April. However, Luciano
was dismissive of the hot Bedford Autodrome testing pace set by his
rivals in recent weeks.
"It's never a good idea taking testing times seriously," said the Essex
youngster. "There's still two months before the first race and unless
someone is really quick on a track we race at, I'm not going to lose
much sleep over it."
After winning the Autumn Trophy opener at Snetterton on his
single-seater debut, Bacheta is eagerly awaiting racing there again
when FPA visits Norfolk in May: "I'm looking forward to going back to
Snetterton, as it's a fast track and I won there four times last year,
twice in FPA and twice in T Cars."
Jonathan Palmer, FPA series boss, former Formula 1 driver and head of
Luciano's T Cars team said: "It was a pleasure to see Luciano win in T
Cars and I think he'll be tough to beat in FPA this season."
The 2007 FPA Championship takes in 20 races at eight UK circuits,
including famous venues Brands Hatch, Oulton Park and Donington Park.
The season kicks off at Silverstone on 7 April.
