Formula Renault UK race winner and 2006 McLaren Autosport BRDC Award finalist Jeremy Metcalfe has received a tremendous boost early into the New Year after being awarded ‘Rising Star’ status by the British Racing Drivers’ Club.
The incredibly prestigious award, which recognises the 18-year-old single-seater ace as one of Britain’s most promising and talented young drivers, sees Jeremy become a member of the Silverstone-based BRDC which is headed, of course, by 1996 Formula One World Champion Damon Hill.
Supported by key sponsors BillChaser, J S Sharpe and Focus IT
throughout the 2006 season, the Fleet teenager enjoyed a fantastic year
at the wheel of his AKA Lemac car and alongside four podium finishes he
was also named ELF/Atol Driver of the Day on two occasions during the
season.
One of the true highlights of the year came when Jeremy succeeded in
winning the Donington Park Racing Association Club (DPRAC) Cup after
becoming the highest scoring British driver over the course of the four
Formula Renault UK races to be contested at the Leicestershire venue as
part of the 2006 season.
Drivers receive Rising Star status on an invitation-only basis, the
initiative inaugurated in 2000 and put in place to recognise those
competitors between 14 and 24 years of age who have been adjudged by a
BRDC panel to have displayed excellence in motorsport.
Identified as a single-seater sensation with an outstanding career in
motor racing ahead of him, Jeremy is absolutely delighted to have been
named a BRDC Rising Star and the Loughborough University student cannot
wait to represent the club with pride.
“Being awarded BRDC Rising Star status really does kick 2007 off
superbly for me”, said the delighted Hampshire ace, “Finishing fifth in
Formula Renault UK and winning the DPRAC Cup were great achievements
but to have been a McLaren Autosport BRDC Award finalist and to now be
a Rising Star really is the icing on the cake.
“It’s an amazing privilege to be part of the British Racing Drivers’
Club. The BRDC is a fantastic place and I’m very impressed by the club
and what it offers. Being a Rising Star will mean an incredible amount
for me as I progress my career so I would like to express my sincere
gratitude to all at the BRDC.”
With just two years of car racing experience now behind him Jeremy
previously enjoyed a superb career in karting, his first major success
coming with title victory in the 2000 MSA British Cadet Karting
Championship. Three years later, he attained even greater heights on
the world stage by becoming Formula A Parma Industrials Karting
Champion.
Having last week confirmed his re-signing with the re-branded AKA Cobra
team, Jeremy is now preparing for the 2007 Formula Renault UK season
with genuine title aspirations
