| Steve Read Part Of Sydney’s Top Fuel Party |

The Australian Top Fuel drag racing ranks are going from strength-to-strength and a major part of the evolution is the Queensland based Read Speed Racing outfit, which lines up for a southern debut during Western Sydney’s Summernationals this Friday and Saturday night. With a power-packed field of nine nominations there’s little doubt the sport as a whole is moving forward and for RSR there’s no better time to be joining the nitro-charged mix. Read Speed Racing driver Steve Read is a two-time Australian, six-time European and five-time British champion who shapes up for just his second drive campaigning his self-funded Top Fuel dragster. “It’s an extremely exciting time for Top Fuel in Australia and we’re just stoked to be mixing it with the heavyweights in Sydney this weekend,” said Read. “Word around the pits is that there are still a lot of cars being constructed in garages right around the country so I’m sure we’re experiencing just the ebb of what will be a massive rejuvenation of Top Fuel racing in this country. “We’re the only Queensland entry this weekend and gauging by our incremental times during our January debut at home we should be among the contenders for the Summernationals crown. “The Jim Read Racing dragsters are running consistent 4.50 and 4.60 second passes over the quarter mile and I’m sure we’ll be thereabouts. “Sydney will feature World-class fields in all Group One categories and we’ll be just out there trying to run as quick and fast as possible to put on a great show for the fans. “By the end of the season it wouldn’t surprise me to see more than 10 Top Fuelers lining up at Willowbank Raceway for the Winternationals so the future is looking very bright for the sport.” The Read Speed Racing crew is a relative novice in the World of Top Fuel drag racing but all members have benefited greatly from the experience of working under race conditions during their Willowbank debut earlier this year. Aiming towards one-hour turnaround times to strip, then reassemble an engine to have the RSR dragster ready to race has required a total team effort. All the variables are falling into place and team leader Read is confident he has the appropriate backing to ensure his place among the front-runners in Sydney. “We’ve installed the latest style cams which should stop us from knocking the blower belt off which proved a problem in Queensland. We also have a stack of data collected from our first outing which will also prove very worthwhile,” added Read. “In this game where tenths and hundredths of a second are what stand between winning and losing, knowledge is a key ingredient. “There are parts we’ve been using that we had absolutely no history on and because everything in the engine has a certain lifetime we haven’t been exactly sure how much wear and tear has been encountered before the purchase of the Gary Clapshaw dragster from the US. “But we’ve now got all that sorted, the crew is chiming in well and contributing to the performance and we’re all very pumped up towards this weekend.” As a vastly experienced International driver, Read is well placed to comment on the overall package he has at his disposal. What should send a clear warning to the opposition in Sydney is that the veteran campaigner feels the RSR dragster is one of the smoothest rides he’s ever had and with a few adjustments since last round things should prove even easier come Friday night qualifying.
