Ambrose Kickes Off Daytona Weekend With Solid Practice Form PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 16 February 2007
Team Australia’s Marcos Ambrose has kicked off his debut event in the NASCAR Busch Series with a solid run in opening practice for the Orbitz 300 at Daytona International Speedway in Florda today.

Ambrose drove the Aussie Vineyards-backed #59 Kingsford Charcoal Ford Fusion to 29th fastest in first practice, completing 32 laps in the session. The Australian ran in the pack around the 2.5-mile superspeedway and felt comfortable with the set-up of his car.

Establishing a race set-up for running in the draft was the priority for Ambrose and the Kingsford Charcoal team today and the entire crew came away pleased with the set-up achieved for the Aussie Vineyards-backed #59 Kingsford Ford.

Ambrose’s Wood Brothers/JTG Racing team-mate Jon Wood set the fastest time in today’s practice session in the #47 Clorox Ford Fusion, ahead of Steve Wallace, Mark Martin and Clint Bowyer.

Ambrose continues proceedings tomorrow with Rookie Practice and Final Practice, before qualifying on Friday and the Orbitz 300 on Saturday.

“We are pretty pleased with how we ran today to start the weekend,” said Ambrose.

“This was our first time running in a really big pack of cars in the draft and we managed to work our way into it and do OK.

“Handling is really important at the moment as the tyres are a fairly hard compound so you need the car set-up well to get enough grip. We were happy with how the #59 Kingsford car was going so we will just keep working at it tomorrow.

“I have the advantage of being allowed to run in rookie practice tomorrow so I will use that to practice some qualifying runs, then use final practice to run in the draft and get the car working well in the pack for the race.”
