Former Formula 1 driver and ITV F1 commentator Martin Brundle followed in the footsteps of his son Alex at Bedford Autodrome yesterday as he sampled a Formula Palmer Audi car.
After 16-year-old T Cars graduate Alex had completed his run in the 300bhp turbocharged single-seater, Martin, who competed in Formula 1 for 13 years, couldn't resist the chance to try out the 150mph racer, and was gushing in his praise of the machine.
"It's a good all-round car for youngsters to learn their trade. It has
plenty of horsepower, which is delviered beautifully, and it was a
great experience to drive," said Brundle, whose last racing car test
was in a Super Aguri F1 car last month.
While Martin is unlikely to make a racing comeback, Alex is set to take
on the challenge of the 2007 FPA Championship, where he will go up
against some of Britain's brightest racing talent. The teenager made
his single-seater debut in the FPA Autumn Trophy last November, showing
flashes of promise including a front-row grid slot for his very first
open-wheel race. The 20-race season kicks off at Silverstone on 7
April, and visits the Brundles' home track of Snetterton on 12/13 May.
