Hitech Confirms Exciting 2007 Driver Line-up PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 16 February 2007
hitech2007_02Silverstone-based British F3 team Hitech Racing has confirmed its 2007 driver line-up with 18 year-old Austrian hotshot Walter Grübmuller joining experienced F3 front-runner Estonian Marko Asmer who returns to the team that took him to fourth place overall in the 2005 season.

For Grübmuller, who tested successfully for the Hitech team last October, 2007 will mark his first full season in Formula 3 following a stunning F3 debut in the Asian series at the tail-end of last year.  The Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup front-runner also took a superb third place in the Australia F3 Championship recently and will join the experienced Asmer in one of the team’s two Dallara F307 Mercedes HWAs for the 22-round series which kicks off at Oulton Park in Cheshire on April 9th.

Asmer, who returned to Hitech Racing for an assault on the end of season Macau Grand Prix and who narrowly missed victory, racked up five podium finishes for the David Hayle-led team in 2005 and was leading the championship at the half way point before ending the season in fourth place.

The pairing of teenager Grübmuller and 22 year-old Asmer, who both began their motorsport careers in karting should set the Hitech team up well for a successful fifth year in the Lloyds TSB Insurance British F3 Championship.

David Hayle; “I have worked very hard during the winter to try to secure a strong position for the team. We have a very experienced and very determined team of people who are hungry for success; Macau 2006 was a perfect example of our capabilities.

“I truly believe we now have the drivers who can give us the results, obviously Marko is going to be very strong, I’m sure he will be a lot of peoples favourite, however winning is never that easy in British F3. Walter is an F3 rookie and has a very big learning curve but having Marko to learn from will hopefully propel him to the front as soon as possible.  We have a two year programme with Walter and whilst the Championship is his aim in 2008, we must try to get results with him in his learning year.”
