Australian teenager Sam Abay will drive for Team Loctite in the 2007 British Formula BMW Championship.
An Australian karting standout, Abay demonstrated his potential leading the 2006 Formula BMW Asia series until the final round. The youngster secured the position with leading UK squad Team Loctite after highly impressive tests for the Somerset based outfit. He is now looking forward to making his European racing debut.
Recognised as one of the fiercest training grounds, the British Formula BMW series boasts the finest young racing talent from around the world and Abay sees the move a necessary step in his career. "Our plan has always been to get to Europe as soon as possible because it is the best place for me to develop as a racing driver. It's great to be able to do this so early in my career."
"I have to thank my sponsor SAI Private, my personal backers, my supply partners MD Law, Fitness HQ, duttondirect.com, Kral's Creations, Henry Birman Design, and our team sponsors Henkel Loctite, The Royal Navy and Teng Tools.”
"There's a lot that has to go on behind the scenes to make this happen and I'm truly blessed to have their backing."
"I'm also indebted to Team Loctite owner Trevor Powell for his tremendous support. Trevor has an amazing team and I felt completely at home right from our first test together."
Powell went on to say, "Sam has an uncanny resemblance to our 2006 driver and McLaren Autosport BRDC Award winner Oliver Turvey and shares many of his attributes, he's quiet, intelligent, slightly reserved and just gets on with the job. He seems to be very focused and determined, but is polite and charming at the same time. What more could a Team owner ask for? I feel that Sam has a great future in European motorsport and hope to provide him with the opportunity to progress rapidly to achieve his ambitions."
