If the 2007 Australian Formula Ford Championship was awarded on the strength of a team’s appearance, Team BRM is surely a shoe-in for the prestigious title.
And whilst in real life it will be up to team drivers Paul Pittam and John Magro to seal the title deal, Team BRM’s two cars will look the part in the process following today’s launch of their two Van Diemen racers that will take the team on their first full-time Australian Formula Ford Championship campaign.
The two cars were competed at the team’s Adelaide workshop this morning
and rolled out for their first look at the sun in their new liveries.
Queenslander John Magro’s #20 car features a traditional BRM-blue
livery with silver highlights, whilst South Aussie contender Paul
Pittam’s #99 entry features a similar scheme, although in the yellow,
black and red colours of major supporter L.J Hooker Gawler.
The new liveries, coupled with the teams already professional image and
high standards of presentation, is sure to see the Team BRM outfit
stand out from the pack come the Clipsal 500 next weekend.
“The cars look fantastic,” Said Team BRM’s Formula Ford manager Mark Rundle.
“We always knew that they would look good, but getting them together
side-by-side just shows how good the outfit is going to look as a team.
“Both cars will surely stand out from the crowded Formula Ford pack and
make sure that our drivers, their sponsors and our team supporters are
the most visible in the field.” He said.
Both Pittam and Magro have completed extensive testing prior to the
Clipsal 500 to ensure that they can have the best possible start to the
championship season.
18-year-old Pittam will be making his Australian Formula Ford
Championship debut at his home event, whilst Magro, who turns 21 just
days after the round, will be looking to build on his strong results at
Mallala raceway’s national championship round last year.
Team BRM made their National Formula Ford debut one year ago at the
2006 Clipsal event, storming to a third place finish for the round with
British driver Ben Clucas behind the wheel.
“It’s been a good off season for the team,” Rundle said.
”The cars have come together well, and the testing has been excellent
and really given Paul and John a chance to settle in with the team and
the cars.
”Clipsal is going to be a big event. Our preparation has been solid and
we know the drivers have what it takes to race at the front. I’m
confident that the top five or six is well within our reach at the
opening round, with more to come as the year progresses and the drivers
gain experience.
”But a good result at our home race would be an ideal way to start the year for us.” He said.
In other news, Team BRM’s new website is currently under construction,
the team aiming to have it online before the Clipsal 500 carnival
begins on Thursday, March 1st.
