Surrey Kart ace Ollie Millroy takes on the second international event of the 2007 season when he competes in the Margutti Trophy at Parma, Italy next weekend (March 3rd/4th). The 16 year-old Claygate driver will return to Italy next Tuesday to commence three days of testing prior to the all important qualifying and races on Saturday and Sunday.
The Super 1, ICA British Kart Champion has successfully competed at the Parma track before and is relishing a return to where he raced at last year in the Parma Industrials.
“Although it is physically a hard track and where I broke a rib at my
last race there in October, I like it and I’ve had success there in the
past. This year though it will be a whole new ball game and I’ll be
going out there with a new challenge and will have to give no less than
100% to succeed. The top guys in this class (KF1) are very experienced
and are the best karters in the world, but I know it’s only a matter of
time before the team (Zanardi) and I are competing for wins”.
Ollie has been to Southern Italy (Ugento) this week testing his
Zanard/Iame combination, with Bridgestone tyres, following the season
opening race, the Winter Cup, at Lonato last weekend.
“The competition in KF1 is going to be far more intense and at a much
higher level than it was in ICA (KF2), because this is as high as you
can go in karting. These are the best drivers in the world, so much so
that although there were only eight of us there testing tyres this
week, we expected Michael Schumacher to join us. Although this didn’t
happen, because the weather changed, he will, without doubt, be there
for future tests”.
“My first few weeks with Zanardi are going very well and I am now
settling in with the team and getting to know my mechanic and how the
team works. Being with a top works team again is a lot different to
what I have been used to for the last couple of years and the
advantages are considerable. I am already getting on the pace of the
top guys and with the help I am getting from Dino (Chiesa) and the team
I am expecting to be challenging for a win very soon”.
Ollie’s next race, the Margutti Trophy at Parma, will commence with
testing at the Northern Italian circuit on Wednesday 28th February
running through until Friday before qualifying and races at the weekend.
