The WPS Racing Falcon of Jason Bargwanna and the WOW Racing entry of Max Wilson have qualified 19th and 23rd respectively for the opening heat of the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide tomorrow.

Both drivers struggled to find balance in newly-configured cars after just one recent test, but both are confident of having reasonable car speed for tomorrow’s opening 250km-78 lap race.

The fastest 10 cars from the second run progress to a final 15-minute battle for pole.

Bargwanna was 19th at the end of the first session, but he was unable to build on that in the next session, which Wilson watched from the garage after being eliminated in the opening stint.

James Courtney took today’s pole from Jamie Whincup and Garth Tander.

“Mid-field is where we sort of expected to be,” said Bargwanna.
“We have a reasonable starting spot and just need to hang in there tomorrow.
“We obviously don’t have the speed to match the top guys, but that will come with more testing and as we get more of a handle on this car.
“There are plenty of decent drivers who did not make the top 10 run.

MAX WILSON #8 WOW RACING FALCON
“We just could not get a good balance today,” said Wilson.
“We made some changes after the last session, but we went in the wrong direction and that happens sometimes.
“We need to turn things around in the warm-up and then make things happen in the race.
“It is going to be a long hot day, but fitness is something that I have on my side in that regard.”

CRAIG GORE – OWNER WPS RACING
“We had a disappointing day, but the fat lady sings on Sunday, not Friday,” said Gore.
“We struggled to come to grips with the back end of the car.
“I don’t think qualifying is as important here with a couple of long races.
“It is all about staying out of trouble and being there at the end.”
